Brisbane Domestic Terminal Retail Upgrade reaches practical completion

Brisbane Airport is Australia’s third largest airport and is the primary international and domestic gateway into the state of Queensland.

In planning the redevelopment for the Domestic Terminal, the overarching goal was to upgrade and enhance the airport environment, so that it provides retail, commercial and recreational experiences that are uniquely Brisbane – a place that fosters connection and opportunity.”
With new high-end retail shops including a new architecturally designed food court and upgrades to public lighting and seating throughout, BAC’s vision has certainly been achieved.
The project also included a combination of base building upgrades and final fitout works for 48 tenancy shells, new amenities and a refurbishment of the Casual Dining Precinct northern end which was designed and procured into 9 separable portions.
When designing the new food court at the Qantas terminal, the stakeholders within BAC, including leasing and operations, had some very specific requirements. To ensure that we delivered the look, feel and aspirations of the client, ADP worked in collaboration with Geyer (interior design) and Studio Arkitecture (architect) providing specialist lighting advice including lighting simulations and renders.
This visual communication with BAC was key in helping all stakeholders agree and approve the final design solution, allowing the project team to achieve an area of respite within a dynamic and busy transit environment. An outcome which can often prove challenging in these types of facilities.
Most of the works were inside the domestic terminal building however there were some requirement for works to the landside and airside locations adjacent to Terminal 1. These works included provision of new grease arrestors and LPG supply to support new food retails tenancies.
The retail upgrade project was also delivered concurrently with 3 other projects: an ICT Upgrade, Security Upgrade and Lighting Upgrade. These projects required ADP to liaise directly with other stakeholders outside the project group and in some cases incorporate their design philosophy into our documentation.
ADP were employed to provide the building services design for the retail upgrades. We were chosen because of our positive approach and innovative solutions to provide efficiencies in construction and ongoing value to the client.
A key achievement on the project was the use of energy efficient equipment and lighting to consume less general energy than before, whilst still creating more dynamic spaces.
